What is the program?



SUNDAY 14 JUNE 2020, Adelaide
This is our day in the bosom of the Jewish community of Adelaide. We will sing with and for the Adelaide community singers, meet the AJCF 5 faculty and team, and meet the memorable Prof. Ghil'ad Zuckermann. He and the composer Yitzhak Yedid will accompany us to Port Augusta, where we will present the world premiere of a new work by Yitzhak, which he is writing for the festival. (He recently won the Azrieli Prize for Jewish music in Canada - check him out online.)

 3pm  Welcome, Orientation

MONDAY 15 JUNE 2020, Adelaide to Port Augusta
The odyssey into the Outback begins. Gently. A mild drive gives us a taste of what is to come. The focus of our time in Port Augusta is our encounter with the Barngarla community. By now we will know a lot more about them. 

 8-9am  Breakfast on your own (info on nearby eating spots to follow)
 Checkout from hotel and go to assembly point.
 9:15am  Bus departs from the hotel. Movie screening. Briefings. Short pit stop in Warnertown. Lunch on the bus.
 1:00pm

 Check in to The Standpipe, Port Augusta. Free time.

 2:00 - 5:30pm  Big Sing 2
 Afternoon tea at The Standpipe
 Showcase 2: 'Flashmob' at The Wharf
 Instant Choirs Session 2
5:30 - 6:15pm

 Free time.

6:15pm  Dinner at The Standpipe.
7:15 - 9:45pm  Encounter with Barngarla community at the Cultural Centre.
 Showcase 3: Sing with, and for the local community.
9:45pm  Bus returns to the hotel.

 

TUESDAY 16 JUNE 2020, Port Augusta to Coober Pedy
Today's drive is longer, and takes us further into the heart of Australia. Coober Pedy is like no other place on earth. Expect the unexpected.

7:30-8:15am  Breakfast at the hotel
 8:15-9:30  Instant Choirs Session 3, preparing for tonight's very different singing experience.
 Check out and go to assembly point.
 9:30am  Bus departs . Movie screening.
 Different kind of singing session on the bus. Lunch packs on the bus.
 1pm  30 minute pit stop at Glendambo Roadhouse.
 Back on the road and an iconic movie.
 4:20pm

 Check in to the Desert Cave Hotel. Free time.

 5:30pm  Big Sing 3
 6pm

 Early dinner and off to the underground Serbian church.

 Open rehearsal/sing/Showcase 4 with local community

WEDNESDAY 17 JUNE 2020, Coober Pedy to Uluru
This is a big day on the road, to maximise our time at Uluru. It's broken into chunks, but be brave. The AJCF team will be on hand with food, singing and amusements to get us over the NT state line in good shape.

7:00-8:00am  Breakfast at the Desert Cave Hotel
8:15am  Check out and go to assembly point.
8:30am  Bus departs from the hotel. 
 Special session with Noreen on the bus. (No reading involved.)
11:00-11:30am  Pit stop at Marla Roadhouse for a substantial morning tea.
11:30am-2:00pm

 Bus departs Marla Roadhouse.
 Movie, another special session, we cross into the Northern Territory. 

2:00-3:34pm  Erldunda Roadhouse: Late lunch, Big Sing 4, meet the emus.
3:45-6:30pm

 Rest/free time. A last 'special session'. Information about Uluru. We're almost there.

6:30pm  We arrive at The Field of Light and have 30 minutes to enjoy this unique place. Also, we hope to get permission for a brief Showcase 5 at the Field of Light. TBC.
7:00pm

 We leave the Field of Light and soon arrive at Yulara, the resort 'town' that provides all Uluru visitor accomodation. The AJCF team will take care of your luggage and check in, as you waft into a welcome dinner at Sails in the Desert. You'll be ready for an early night, and we recommend that you take the opportunity.

 

THURSDAY 18 JUNE 2020, Uluru/Yulara
There are still a few details to finalise, but this should be very close to the final program for our final day together. We will pull together the elements of our journey and experiences along the way, spend time with that magical rock, hopefully meet with singers from the nearby Mutitjulu community, and sing under the desert stars.

 9:30am

 Bus departs for the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park.

 10:00-11:30am  Guided walk at Uluru
11:30am-12:30pm

 Free time at the Cultural Centre at Uluru.

12:30-1:15pm  Lunch at the Cultural Centre.
1:30-3:30pm  Big Sing 5
3:45-5:15pm  Bus returns to Yulara
 Free time, then go to assembly point
5:30pm  Bus departs for our own, dedicated Sounds of Silence experience.
 We do know these details, but are keeping them to ourselves!

9:45pm  Bus arrives back at the resort, and there endeth the AJCF.
